Chicken gizzard is fun to eat. Let me tell you that. It is delicious and has a surprising texture to eat that is quite enjoyable to eat most especially as a snack.

Chicken gizzard isn’t too much of a popular protein to cook because it’s part of the chicken’s innards. Chicken gizzard is basically the stomach of the chicken. Whatever the chicken eats will go through the gizzard and the gizzard will grind whatever is ingested until it is able to pass through the rest of the digestive system. Therefore you have to clean your chicken gizzards before cooking them.

Sure it may sound weird but hey, it’s good! It’s so good that nutrition facts aren’t shy of this special organ. There are health benefits to eating chicken gizzard. They provide certain vitamins and minerals to our systems but of course, these may lose their credibility when cooked in certain ways. Nevertheless, here are some reasons why chicken gizzard is good for you.

Health benefits of eating chicken gizzards

1. Good Protein

Chicken gizzard is packed with a substantial amount of protein. Protein is necessary and is needed by our bodies because it produces energy. Protein also aids to replace the cells that compose our muscles and tissues.

2. Nutritious

Chicken gizzard is nutritious. A serving 3.5 ounces of chicken gizzard provides you with 3.5 mg of iron and 4.4 mg of zinc. Women and men are in need of these nutrients in their daily intake. Taking these nutrients aid a healthy immune system and promotes proper healing of wounds.  Ingesting chicken gizzard also gives you a certain amount of vitamin B12, which is needed for brain function, our immune system and producing white blood cells.

Chicken gizzards are also a good source of vitamin C, riboflavin, magnesium, manganese and copper.

3. Low in Fat

A serving of gizzard provides 2.1 grams of fat only and is totally carbohydrates-free! A serving also provides less than 100 calories so if you’re bulking up, you might want to have more than one serving of delicious chicken gizzard. You won’t feel guilty eating that serving. If you prepare your gizzard with added fat, the calories will go up but it won’t be so bad.

4. Builds Muscles

Given that chicken gizzard is high in protein and low in fat, it’s a great addition to your diet if you plan to get lean and bulk up. Most will turn to chicken breast, beef, salmon or peanut butter but a way cheaper option is present under the name of chicken gizzard.

Chicken gizzard can taste good if you prepare it properly and you cook it correctly. You don’t have to go heavy on the fat to make it taste delicious. You just have to know how to cook it well and to season it properly.
